Hon. Ikunyi Igbani has been unanimously elected as the new speaker of the 8th Rivers State House of Assembly on Monday in Port Harcourt. Ikunyi Igbani represents Andoni Constistuency, was the Chief Whip of the ill fated Rivers State House of Assembly during Rotimi Amaechi rein.
Marshall Uwom, a former commissioner of Lands under the Amaechi administration has also been elected as Deputy Speaker of the 8th Assembly.
The Rivers State House of Assembly complex, which has been under lock since July 2013 was declared open by Governor Nyesom Wike for the 8th Assembly.
Governor Wike had charged the state lawmakers to conduct their affairs within the confines of the law.
